Other services include Dental lasers which can offer a variety of benefits during your dental visits. Our Calgary AB dentists, Dr. Bouma and Dr. Kim have been implementing the use of lasers for several years.
With dental lasers, patients can access minimally invasive care and therapies like:
Periodontal disease (gum disease) is a serious condition in which the gum tissue becomes inflamed due to bacterial infection. This results in bone loss around the teeth along with recession of the gums and can eventually lead to tooth loss. Think of it as losing the foundation that holds your teeth in place.
Do you or your partner suffer from snoring, or difficulty breathing while sleeping? Do you or your child have enlarged tonsils or feel tired all day long from not getting enough sleep? Have you ever been tested for sleep Apnea?
At Pathways Dental Clinic, we offer oral sleep apnea therapy that could help you deal with sleep apnea and ensure you get a good night’s sleep!
What is Bruxism? If you find yourself waking up with sore jaw muscles or a headache, you may be suffering from bruxism (the grinding and clenching of teeth). Sometimes patients aren’t even aware they are clenching and grinding while they sleep. Bruxism can cause wear patterns or chips and cracks in the teeth right through the enamel. This wear can cause increased sensitivity. Over time Bruxism can also destroy the bone and gum tissue resulting in the teeth becoming mobile. It can also lead to serious problems involving the jaw joint, such as temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ).
Using the Botulinum Toxin, Dr. Tony Kim and Dr. Derek Bouma are licensed to Inject Neuromodulators in our NE Calgary Dental Clinic. These neuromodulation injections use a purified protein. It is injected into muscles, and it blocks the neurotransmission of the nerves that innervate the muscles. It does NOT paralyze the muscle, only down-modulates it to decrease its contraction.
Areas that we typically treat for facial wrinkle “softening” is the forehead, corners of the eyes (“Crow’s Feet”), and between the eyes (Glabella).
Neuromodulators are also used in mastication (chewing) muscles, such as the massetters and temporalis, to treat Bruxism (“clenching and grinding”), and tension headaches. For some patients, this provides extreme relief of pain that no other treatment is able to. This is called Myofacial pain.
